Everything stays local
Detection and restoration run entirely on your computer. The only text that ever leaves is the sanitized version you choose to share.
Use public AI on legal documents without ever exposing a client confidence.
Version 0.1.5 · Windows 10 & 11 · a one-time activation key unlocks the app.
RedactIt lets lawyers take advantage of public AI tools without exposing client confidences. It detects the sensitive details in a legal document — client and party names, addresses, and other identifiers — and reversibly pseudonymizes them, replacing each with a neutral placeholder.
All detection happens entirely on your own machine; nothing is sent anywhere during redaction. You can then share the sanitized text with any online service — ChatGPT, Claude, or another assistant — to improve or analyze it. When the AI hands the text back, RedactIt restores the real details locally in a single step.
Built originally for one firm's confidentiality needs, it is now available to any practice with the same concern. RedactIt runs on Windows and requires a one-time activation key.
RedactIt is a starting point, not a substitute for your own review. Automated detection is never perfect — it may miss a name or include one it should not. You are responsible for reviewing each document and confirming the redaction is complete and correct before you share it.
Detection and restoration run entirely on your computer. The only text that ever leaves is the sanitized version you choose to share.
Sensitive details are swapped for typed placeholders and kept in an encrypted local vault, so the AI's improved text can be restored to the real names in one click.
Every detected entity is shown for review — add or remove any item — so you see exactly what will be hidden before the sanitized text is ever copied out.
Handles Word (.docx) and text-based PDF documents, plus plain pasted text, with formatting preserved on the way back.
